SAN FRANCISCO - FEBRUARY 04: People line up ...

One of the perpetual favorite places to escape from the daily grind, is the vast and diverse state of California. This state is always on the top of family fun spots because there are so many places to go, and so much to see and do. California has tourist attractions that appeal to all different ages and preferences, and as a bonus, the weather is usually quite nice throughout the year.

No matter whether the family is interested in activities in the cities of California and the big theme parks that are so plentiful, or they are more inclined to enjoy the breathtaking mountains, the lush and ancient forests, or the miles and miles of beautiful beaches, there is no doubt that there are enough travel and tourism to provide many options.

tourist destinations
In fact, vacationing in California will probably mean that there will be much more to see than most families will have time to visit, so there’s not much chance of boredom being a problem during a family vacation in this state.

Most of the time when families start talking about a vacation to California, everyone gets excited about the big tourist attractions that everyone knows about, such as Universal Studios, Disneyland, Sea World, Magic Mountain and Knott’s Berry Farm. But in addition to these major sights, one shouldn’t overlook some of the lesser known, slightly quirky attractions.

vacation packages
For instance, one of the attractions near San Francisco, which is gaining a surprising following, is the Museum of Pez Memorabilia. Yes, that’s right; the little Pez candy dispenser everyone remembers from their youth has been honored with its very own museum. The museum contains not only the officially released Pez dispensers made by the company itself, but also features a collection of some “fantasy Pez dispensers” that have been produced by an “underground” market.

Including some of these off-the-beaten paths, quirky kinds of attractions in the family vacation plans will help make the overall trip even more memorable and fun as well. It’s probably a good bet that your child will be the only one in their class to report that they visited the Pez museum during their vacation travel.

While in the San Francisco area, there are many wonderful sights that should not be missed. The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the world’s most popular attractions, and for good reason. In addition, no visit to San Francisco should be considered complete without a stop by the historic and popular Fisherman’s Wharf or Alcatraz.

vacation rentals
Within a couple hours drive of the Bay Area, the Napa Valley awaits visitors with an array of tourist spots all its own. With vineyards to explore, wine tasting, fine gourmet restaurants to delight in, and plush boutique hotels to luxuriate in, it is no wonder why the quaint small towns of the Napa Valley are some of the most popular tourist destinations anywhere in the states.

One of the best ways to enjoy great family Vacation Rentals is to shop for discount cheap vacations, which include the California tourist attractions that your family is most interested in seeing. Many times, families can enjoy cheap vacations because of the savings that they can get through these packages, which often include the hotel rooms, airline tickets, car rental, and even tickets to one or more of the major theme parks.

Where To Book The Most Gratifying Golf Lodging In Spain

Nov 30th, 2008 Posted in Travel and Leisure | no comment »

Part of the thrill in planning a family vacation comes in imagining the seemingly endless options you may have available to make a fun trip. The world is simply filled with enjoyable travel packages that can take you to exciting lands. And one of your “can’t miss” choices is playing some of the great golf courses in Spain.

If you want to combine amazing prices with an incredible golf hotel, Spain is where you need to go. The service is at European levels, the grounds are incredible, the golf is even better and the prices are affordable.

The majority of golf hotels and resorts are centered in and around Costa Del Sol, home to famous courses like the Robert Trent Jones-designed Valderrama Golf Club.

But that’s not the only hot course in the region or the country. Costa del Sol is home to 36 courses alone and Spain itself offers hundreds of both public and private courses for you to enjoy. To find out more about the region and the best courses, keep reading.

Andalusia and Coast Line

Costa del Sol is located in Andalusia and it’s only a 50 minute flight from Madrid. Along this incredible coastline, there are piles of amazing courses. Aside from the golf though, you can enjoy beautiful Spanish towns, hike nearby hills or simply lie by the beach and relax.

Best Gold Courses in the Area

Valderrama isn’t just a difficult course - it’s also hard to obtain a tee time unless you have a lot of advance notice. If you can’t get into Valderamma, you may want to try one of the following other courses or resorts. The Golf Club Marbella was also designed by Robert Trent Jones and is located close by. The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas is historic and gorgeous. The Golf Torrequebrada is tortuous and a course for the truly adventurous.

Other Activities in the Area

Along the fabled coastline, now bursting with hotels, marinas and casinos, there are also many small harbors where boats can be chartered for fishing expeditions and water skiing. Yet if visitors have already found enough water on golf courses, they should consider other diversions, such as excursions to Grenada, Seville and small whitewashed towns in the Sierra Nevadas first settled by the Phoenicians and Romans centuries ago.

But no matter what your pleasure, whether it’s golf, a cultural adventure, or even a short ferry ride to Morocco from the port town of Algeciras - at day’s end, eat and drink heartily, because on the Costa del Sol, particularly at its many beachside restaurants, the no-frills cooking is pescadito sardines and small squid or calamaritos, usually roasted on spits and, best of all, served with famous sweet Malaga wines.

Places to Stay

If you’re looking for a golf hotel, Spain has numerous options. For luxury, try the Marbella Club Hotel. For variety, take in the Atalaya Park Golf Hotel and Resort. For a central location, opt for the La Cala Golf and Spa Resort. And if your heart is set on absolute luxury, try looking into the Fairplay Golf Hotel and Spa, a five star hotel with an award-winning course.

Taking A Cruise: Terrific Couples’ Romantic Time Away

Nov 28th, 2008 Posted in Travel and Leisure | no comment »

Going Home

With the stresses of work, family schedules, finances and kids, most couples need the occasional break - a romantic retreat to rekindle their romance, invigorate their relationship and give them time to simply relax.

If you’re looking for the perfect romantic getaway that combines worry-free planning, all-inclusive budgeting and romantic sparkle, cruise travel is a great option.

To learn about how to book the best romantic cruise for you and your loved one - regardless of your cruise destination - keep reading for great tips on everything from what to look for in a cruise ship to how to get the best deals for your spouse.

Opt For a Cruise with an Age Limit

The last thing you want on your romantic getaway is to be surrounded by toddlers on their way to a puppet show at the children’s pool. So, book a cruise with an enforced age limit.

Most cruise lines offer cruises that restrict boarding to both individuals 25 and older or married individuals 21 and older. The bulk of these cruises are specifically targeted toward couples and will offer amenities like increased room service, couples’ massages, formal dining and couples’ activities.

If you’re unable to find a cruise with an age limit that’s right for you, most ships offer areas, including pools that are adults-only.

Stay Away From “Singles” Cruises

In contrast to couples’ cruises, some cruise lines offer cruise vacations that are specifically for single travelers or the ’spring break’ party crowd. Unless you want to spend your romantic getaway immersed in loud dance music and terrible pick up lines, you’re going to want to stay away from these options.

Pick a Boat Size That Works For You

A larger boat may have more passengers and a less intimate “feel,” but it also allows for greater anonymity while on-board ship and a larger range of facilities. When choosing a ship, think about what’s important for you in terms of privacy and boat size.

Get the Balcony

As tempting as it may be to book an inside cabin for a discount, know that the space is small and often windowless. If this cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime romantic treat, it’s time to splurge and opt for a cabin with a romantic balcony. When you’re watching the stars go by from bed, you’ll be thankful.

How to Get Great Couples’ Deals

Booking as a couple gives you an advantage. You can often look for “companion” rates that apply to either cabin bookings or air fare to your port. Many cruise lines and some air carriers offer a companion discount for couples traveling together.

Uncovering Great Student Travel Discounts

Nov 27th, 2008 Posted in Travel and Leisure | no comment »

It’s great to take an opportunity for a family vacation. However, what might be a fun trip for some may not serve as enjoyable travel for others. Consider teens or college students on break who want some adventure for a reasonable price.

Well if you are planning a backpacking voyage and looking for some great global student travel deals, then keep reading to learn the three best ways to save money on your next big trip.

Get an ISIC

ISIC stands for an International Student Identity Card. This card is available from most STA Travel offices, Travelcuts locations and other student-affiliated travel agencies around the world. Essentially, an ISIC is your proof that you’re a student, and the card is recognized by thousands of dealers, sellers and travel providers around the world.

Want to get a student rate on your Eurorail pass? You need an ISIC. Want to save on your admission to the national parks of Kenya? You need an ISIC. Want to get a discounted rate at that Australian hostel? You need an ISIC. It’s an internationally recognized card that can save you hundreds on a backpacking trip. If you have an ISIC, keep an eye out for the ISIC logo, you could access big savings wherever you see it.

Student Airfare Rates

Most airlines no longer offer student rates directly. However, some continue to provide youth fares that are only available through youth-focused or student-focused travel agencies. Check with your on-campus travel agency to see if they have any student specials before you book.

Before you book a student fare, be sure of your travel dates. Student fares are often cheaper because they’re restricted, meaning you either can’t make changes to the flight or you can do so, but only after paying a hefty flight change fee. So, before you book, make sure you won’t have to make schedule changes prior to the date of your departure.

Get a Hostelling International Membership

Hostelling International is a network of hostels all around the world. You can buy a membership to this network, and in return you’ll get savings at all their member hostels along with preferred booking status. Not only can you access HI-member hostels at a cheaper rate, but you also get basic travel insurance for a year and commission free money exchange.

but you will save money. For example, the cost of a membership in the United States is $28 per year for an adult between the ages of 18 and 54. However, you’ll typically hold onto between 10 and 25% per night on each of your stays, meaning you’ll often make back the cost of the membership after 6-10 nights in an HI hostel.

Remember, you’re not going to automatically get student travel deals. You have to look for and ask for them. So, always keep your eye out for special student prices, and keep your ISIC or student identity card on you at all times to take advantage of savings opportunities.

Discover Arizona Airfares And Cheap Getaways

Nov 25th, 2008 Posted in Travel and Leisure | no comment »

The state of Arizona has so much to offer and with Tucson Airfare being affordable in the shoulder and off-peak seasons we really should come and discover the state. You may want to tour the Grand Canyon with the wonder of nature showing you just how patience and time can erode something into a true thing of beauty. Or you could want to see some of the outstanding museums the state has to offer with the rich heritage of the Native Americans, Hispanic culture and western culture all available in different locations.

This is a great way to discover your Phoenix travel. The Heard Museum in Phoenix is a must see for everyone interested in the history of the area. Here you will be shown some of the best in traditional and modern American Indian art. There are 10 exhibition galleries that include 5 long-term and 5 changing exhibitions with two different locations for you to tour.

While you are visiting the Phoenix area you may wish to tour Pueblo Grande Museum which is an archaeological site museum and repository. The focus of the museum is supporting the understanding of prehistory, history, and ethnology of inhabitants of the Southwest. The museum is situated at a 1,500 year-old Hohokam village ruins. You can study reproductions of the prehistoric Hohokam homes when exploring the ruin trail. At the site is also some of the last surviving intact Hohokam irrigation canals. This is a fantastic piece of Hohokam history.

A few hours to the southeast, you will find wonderful Tucson travel. Travel on down to Tombstone where you can experience the Old West. Tombstone was known as “The Town Too Tough To Die,” and is the most famous of Arizona’s old mining camps. This area produced millions of dollars of gold and silver over a 7 year run. When you are visiting Tombstone you will discover the chance to see Boothill Graveyard, the old Tombstone Courthouse and watch many of the residents dressed in period clothing.

Outside of Tucson you may want to visit the Titan Missile Museum which was home to one of the Titan II Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles. There were 18 Titan II missile sites located near the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson. The Titan Missile Museum is the only Titan Missile site that remains intact; all the others were destroyed. You can take a guided tour that includes the launch control room with a simulated launch and then travel on through the 200 ft tunnel for inspection at the Titan II missile. It’s an incredible tour, be sure to make time to stop here.

If you want to discover the heritage of the Native American lifestyle you can do that in and around Phoenix too. First look for the Arizona Airfare and book your flight to come and explore this wonderful state called Arizona.

As soon as you fly into Phoenix the state awaits you at your door. You can go north to Flagstaff and explore the wonders of this mountain forest or go to Sedona and see some of the most beautiful creative art anywhere. The red mountains are a sight to see and the town brimming with artists featuring their exquisite work. As you land in Phoenix, enjoy your Phoenix Arizona vacations

As you are descending into Phoenix you can see some of the natural glory of this area whether it is crusing over the Grand Canyon or the mountains surrounding the city. You will see desert area and developed areas as you fly in.

Golfing is featured at some of the top resorts in the state where the courses are carefully cultivated to the professional qualities of the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and even Tiger Woods. If you have wanted to play on a course that would be acceptable to this level of golfer then the Phoenix area is where you want to play. Bring your clubs and appreciate the serenity of any of the courses in the area. In Scottsdale alone there are 174 courses for you to select from, there will be one that certainly fits your wants and skill requirements.

The climate in Arizona offers a wide array of options for your enjoyment. The desert region can reach temperatures well into the 100’s in the summer and at night drop to below freezing in the winter. The mountain region remains a delightful range of 80’s and 90’s during the summer but gets snow in the winter. You can hike the mountains in the summer and snowmobile them in the winter.

The cheapest airfares for Arizona Airfare are usually in the summer with the temperatures getting hot and steamy. If you like the heat you can find some great buys on airline tickets throughout the summer. Winter is the high season so ticket costs are often higher. If you shop you can get some great deals during the spring and fall when the vacation market isn’t as competitive. It’s a great time to visit when the desert is in bloom and the air fresh and clean.

REVIEW OF INSURANCE FOR VISITOR

Nov 20th, 2008 Posted in Travel and Leisure | no comment »

Many travelers do not bother with visitor health insurance, or even know much about it. Visitors Health Insurance covers some important areas for travelers such as hospital care and prescription drugs. When visiting a country such as the U.S. from somewhere else, the cost of health care often catches people off guard. This makes the coverage for visitors health insurance quite beneficial.

US Visitors Insurance covers a wide range of benefits. Visitors often do not expect to need medical care, and are therefore unprepared financially. By taking the precaution of visitors insurance, travelers can rest easy knowing that they have important coverage.

Visitors Health Insurance allows customers to choose a deductible which they are comfortable with and create a policy based upon that level and the preferred price. Levels of coverage largely depend upon the type of the plan, but the same basic services are usually covered in every policy.

Dental injury, hospital room and board and emergency sickness are just a few of the areas covered by typical visitors insurance. These are basic needs that every visitor should have insurance for. Maybe nothing would go wrong, but if it did, health insurance for visitors can be a life saver.

Additional coverage may be necessary if one is traveling to a less stable area of the world. Coverage for terrorism, for example, can be included in one’s policy. Medical evacuation is another occurrence which may prove to be both unexpected and expensive. Having visitors insurance can truly put one’s mind at ease when traveling overseas.

There are many more benefits which can be included in one’s visitors insurance policy. Sports related coverage is available as well as identity theft assistance and accidental death coverage. Other options can be added to personalize one’s policy to their own travel needs.

Regardless of how many times one has been to a country or how safe they feel they will be, insurance for visitors is an important part of any trip. In many cases, host families will purchase insurance for a visiting relative. This is a great way to protect loved ones.

Nobody likes to think about what could happen, but it is important to be prepared. Being caught off guard in a foreign country is not a good situation. The coverage available through visitor insurance could not only save one’s wallet, but save one’s life.

Cruise Travel: Ways To Plan For Your Voyage On The Ship

Cruise ships are a fun and engaging way to see numerous ports of call, enjoy a variety of activities and travel through beautiful regions. Cruise ship travel is, by nature, markedly different from any other form of vacation. So, you need to plan accordingly.

From packing to medical considerations, preparing for a cruise vacation goes beyond the basics of swim trunks and guide books. To learn about how best to prepare for a cruise vacation, keep reading for great tips on everything from packing your suitcase to warding off seasickness.

What to Pack on a Cruise Vacation

Ultimately, what you pack is going to depend on your cruise destination. An Alaskan cruise will require different clothing than a Caribbean cruise at the height of summer. That said, don’t let land temperatures fool you.

Particularly during the winter months, some cruises (like those leaving from L.A.) can be quite cold. Regardless of the forecasts on land, always pack a wind-resistant jacket and at least one set of clothes that will allow you comfort up on deck when things get chilly out at sea.

You’ll also need proper identification and proof of purchase to board a cruise ship. These will be required at every port-of-call, so pack your papers (including your health insurance) in a water-resistant envelope that’s small enough to carry with you if you plan to leave the ship.

Medical Considerations

You will most likely need travel health insurance for your next cruise vacation. When purchasing travel insurance, try to find one that’s geared specifically toward cruises and the legal intricacies of international waters.

Secondly, pack any needed medications. You may even want to pack extras or a spare if you intend to go to shore. For example, an asthmatic may want to pack one inhaler to carry in a pocket and another backup inhaler just in case.

Most cruise ships have a medical clinic and doctor or health professional on-board the ship, but this is typically a stopgap measure, not a full-proof backup.

Finally, if you’re prone to motion sickness, you can prepare for your voyage with basic ginger root. An herbal remedy, ginger root has been proven to help with seasickness while avoiding the side effects common with many pharmaceutical motion sickness remedies. Herbalists recommend taking the ginger root starting a few weeks before you actually leave on your cruise.

What You Should Leave Behind

Always leave behind a full travel itinerary and emergency contact information with family and friends. Most cruise lines offer an emergency number that can be used by family and friends in case they need to get in touch with you urgently.
