We live in really exciting times. As a mumpreneur/mompreneur you have so many opportunities available to you, some of which were totally unheard of only five years or so ago.

It wasn’t so long ago that people who worked from home were vilified to a certain extent. People couldn’t conceive how it could be possible to earn real, usable money in this way. Times are so different now and it’s certainly possible to turn a hobby or passion into a worthwhile and rewarding business when you are working from home.

Traditionally, you had to spend long hours at boring Chambers of Commerce network meetings, or had to engage in other forms of “push” marketing at all times, but now you can be creative and develop a marketing plan for your business online.

1. Rule number one is to set up your profile at one of the professional networking sites such as Linkedin. This is where professionals go to meet other professionals and you can set up a profile so that others in your specific line of business become aware of you.

2. Social media has exploded over the last few years. Not only is it a way to interact socially with friends, acquaintances and “soon-to-be” friends, but it can be a very powerful business marketing tool as well. Think about Facebook for example. Your Facebook account can be expanded to include a business page and if you let all your contacts and friends know about this, you can build up an army of “fans” for your business.

3. If you want to send very highly targeted messages, think about Twitter, as this is one of the leading social media “mini blogs.” Publishing an account in your business name is not difficult and you can then start to set up contact details for those who are also interested in your niche. Whenever you send a message on Twitter, it is restricted to 140 characters or less, but this is nevertheless a very potent way of communicating and establishing yourself as an expert in your niche for good effect.

4. If you want to create great looking blogs, why not use WordPress as your tool? Blogs are very powerful but do take a lot of work, and you should be prepared to work on your creation each and every day. Set a blog up as a vehicle for you to talk about your knowledge in this business arena and aim to write one new blog post per day and publish it. It’s rather easy to do.

5. There are many, many ways that you can promote your business using social media. With Facebook and Twitter presence in hand and an outline blog established, look for and start visiting other important blogs in your niche and start interacting with them.

The power of blogging is in the two-way interaction created when commenting on the blog posts. As you proceed, others will see your comments and start visiting your blog and commenting themselves. Remember, social media can become quite viral rather quickly.
